the roots

Truth has become an endangered virtue.

We are the many who will not allow ourselves to be divided by the few who manipulate its definition for their own self-serving forces. We demand transparency from our leaders and we require it from the organizations we support through our purchases. We remove our support (financial and other) from those individuals and businesses who fail to demonstrate that transparency is a guiding principle in their endeavors.

A basic tenet of a healthy democracy is open dialogue and transparency.

– Peter Fenn

There is no inequality in man, except that which we have allowed being placed upon us by a divisive few.

All persons deserve equal benefits and opportunities as are afforded to us by society. We believe that we have the same inalienable rights as human beings, absent of discrimination by sex, gender, race, creed, color, age, faith, or economic status. We are all sisters and brothers equal in the eyes of our Mother Earth.

Where there is one slave there is always two. He who wears the chain and he who rivets it

– Jeanne de Hericourt

Our greatest strength has come from our differences, not our similarities.

We believe our diversity as a people must be embraced. We strive to find the greatness in that which makes us different from each other. And, we celebrate that we are, in fact, the same in that empathy and compassion with which we do. Likewise, we hold dear that biodiversity of this great, yet fragile planet we live in and understand that we must protect plants, animals, land and water which comprise it.

Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.

–  Jacqueline Woodson

At the end of the day, love and compassion will win.

The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.

Compassion is the radicalism of our time.

– Dalai Lama

We earn the respect of others by offering our respect to others.

We respect other beings not based on their abilities, qualities, or achievements, but by the sheer fact that they are part of creation. We respect all life and the planet on which we all reside because we know that this path of mutual respect is not only righteous, but it is the only sustainable path for mankind’s continued existence.

If we lose love and respect for each other, this is how we finally die.

– Maya Angelou

Anger begets anger. Violence begets violence.

The tri stringently reproaches violence in any means. We believe in to promoting, impeding, or directing social, political, economic and environmental reform through vigorous, but peaceful activism. We will promote that which we condone and protest that which we condemn, but we will never resort to the chaos and destruction of violence.

Whenever you are confronted with an opponent. Conquer him with love.

-Mahatma Gandhi

emotional intelligence

Our feelings are not there to be cast out or conquered. They’re there to be engaged and expressed with imagination and intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is our ability to recognize and understand emotions in ourself and others, and our ability to use this awareness to manage our behavior and relationships.

Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.

– C.G. Jung

We are responsible to each other, as much as we are responsible to ourselves.

We define ourselves by our responsibility to each other as living beings, and the responsibility all living beings have to the planet we share. But, moreover, we are responsible for our own actions. We are self-aware, sentient beings who understand that our decisions and actions effect the lives of all other, as well as our own.

You cannot evade the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.

-Abraham Lincoln

We have lost the sense of community which defined us as a civilization.

In the beginning, Man gathered into tribe, tribe became town, town became city, city state, state nation, and nations joined into international unions. For the first time in history, those wheels of progress have screeched to a halt. There are forces at work to turn those wheels backwards and scatter and divide us. We must return to the sense of community that brought us together. The answers we seek are not found on a foreign shore, but rather within the very communities we reside in as individuals.

If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

-African Proverb

local action

Global change can only be achieved through those actions first taken locally.

Changing the world may seem an impossible task for a single person, but every great revolution in our history, whether it be of science, culture, democracy or civil rights, started in the mind of a single individual or group and the actions they took locally. We believe in taking an active role in local community, philanthropy and government, and that if each of us takes action locally, we can change the state of the nation from the inside out.

Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.

-Margaret Mead

sustainable future/environmental stewardship

Mankind’s growth is exponential, its resources finite.

For centuries, we have acted in a parasitic role to the planet which gives us life. This path is not sustainable. We must change our ways and choose a path that can be sustained. We follow a course that will return us to a state of symbiosis with the planet. We reward those businesses that operate under these same ideologies with the loyalty of our purchases and we penalize those which do not by our omission.

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.

-Robert Swan
