Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Indianapolis, leaders honored Thrive Market, Batesville, employees Feb. 1 for their generosity and commitment to helping feed the hungry.
The 2017 Hunger Hero framed certificate noted, “Thrive Market is a sustaining support in the fight for hunger relief. This award signifies that this establishment is one of Gleaners’ top 100 food donors.”
Thrive Market provided 36,500 meals to impoverished persons last year, reported Gleaners food acquisition manager Heather Conner.
Thrive Market donates about 2 pallets of product each week to area food pantries, explained Rhonda Savage, its wellness and community engagement consultant. “Our partner pantries are affiliated with Gleaners and report to Gleaners the amount of pounds Thrive has donated. Loyal food pantry volunteers pull up to a Thrive dock each week to load and transport the product.
She added, “Thrive Market is grateful for this partnership with Gleaners. We trust Gleaners and their Feeding America standards that ensure product is handled and distributed appropriately. Gleaners does an amazing job connecting and supporting food pantries. Their assistance in getting this product to people who can use it is most appreciated. Thrive Market’s facility in Reno, Nevada, is also glad to work with their Feeding America food bank.”
In addition to the Gleaners donations, Thrive Market’s Batesville facility has occasionally partnered with the Ripley County Humane Society, North Dearborn Food Pantry, Margaret Mary Health wellness events and Safe Passage to get products in the hands of people who can use it, according to Savage. :We are proud to support these local community organizations and are grateful for the good work that they do.”
The Thrive Market Batesville facility, which operates seven days a week, 20 hours a day, has 230 employees now. Leaders hope to hire 50 more hourly and supervisory workers by March, said Vice President of Fulfillment Matthew Terry, who oversees both of the companies’ warehouses in Batesville and Reno. The Batesville plant packs and ships products to customers east of the Rockies.
