At the tri we believe in the power of voting with your dollars to create positive social and environmental impact. A question that arises through this sentiment is “What about those individuals and communities that don’t have the privilege of voting with their dollars?”
Beyond monetary needs, we recognize that there are 844 million people around the world that don’t even have access to clean, safe drinking water. It is a privileged demographic that has the ability to vote with their dollars. Those of us fortunate enough to have access to the free market have a responsibility to empower these struggling populations with access to the resources that are vital to their well-being and survival.
What does this mean for us, how can empower these people?
If you’re reading these words on your computer or cell phone you are most likely one of those fortunate individuals who have your basic needs met. We can give back by using our privileged position to empower others. We do this by investing in solutions and sharing these solutions with our friends and family.
Our partners Numi Organic Tea are creating real solutions that empower farming communities around the world with their clean water initiative. Their non-profit program, Together for H2OPE is building wells, repairing water and sewage infrastructure and administering community-led education.
This unique program builds lasting sustainable relationships to water by empowering the community directly. The programs are taught by the farmers and their communities to ensure proper water access and sanitation for generations to come. They have thus far built 23 wells and provided clean water access to 10,500 villagers in Madagascar and India. They plan to expand their program to South Africa and Egypt soon.
“It all boils down to water, It all boils down to us”
So what can we do?
We can use our spending power to invest in solution based companies like Numi Organic Tea. We can share initiatives like this with our tribe so that others can make informed conscious votes with their dollars. We can start our own initiatives with our businesses.
We are all in this together. Together for H2OPE.
