fair trade month: vote with your dollars.
There is a concept, not a new one, called Dollar Voting. In theory, it proposes that consumers cast votes with each and every dollar they spend on purchases of goods and services. By purchasing goods from a business, you are sending a message that you agree with that product. You are supporting it. You are also supporting the business, its employees, its supply chain, and for all intents and purposes, all of its ideologies and actions. I know, right? A lot of responsibilities. I didn’t sign up for this, I was just out of toilet paper. But, that’s really the truth of the matter.
The decisions we make at the shoe store, what car we buy, what soap we purchase, they are all part of a larger system. It’s complicated, so we don’t like to have to think about it. We like simple. But, when we think simple, we think with myopia. We see only what is within our line of vision. We stay blind or unconscious to how we affect and how we can affect the rest of the world.
This month is Fair Trade Month. Dollar Voting plays a very significant role in conscious capitalism, and in turn Fair Trade. Please take the time to review some of the companies you purchase from and see if they participate in Fair Trade.
If they don’t, there is a competitor that does. And they make a better soap/superfruit/tea/product/service because there’s takes into account that we are all-one and we need to take care of each other.
Spend with Intention. Vote with your Dollars.
