Wold Day of Social Justice: Take action by voting with your dollars

We are living in a time where the power of technology and the rate of innovation have pushed the growth edges of our global community. We are connected to one another in a way that never before could have been imagined. As we share our stories across borders and cultures we begin to see the one in one another. The world wide web has built bridges and from these connection points we have seen a wave of movements ripple out. Social justice and equality is more than just a hot topic, it is a crucial next step in our evolutionary growth. We have come too far, and now it is time to put down the baggage of inequality and step into our truth. We are all ONE.

At the tri we share a vision of world peace in which loving each other as brothers and sister is our highest accomplishment. A world where each and every citizen holds the power in their hands to participate in their democracy by intentionally voting with their dollars. That is why on this World Day of Social Justice we want connect you with how you can be a leader in the social justice movement by how you spend your time, energy, and money.

Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. The International Labor Organization estimates that about 2 billion people live in fragile and conflict-affected situations, of whom more than 400 million are aged 15 to 29. The United Nations says that “Job creation, better quality jobs, and better access to jobs for the bottom 40 percent have the potential to increase incomes and contribute to more cohesive and equitable societies and thus are important to prevent violent conflicts and to address post-conflict challenges.”

So what does this mean?

How can we make a difference in the lives of 2 billion people living in fragile situations?

There are many ways you can get involved in social justice, but the easiest way is to “Vote With Your Dollars!” That is why the tri has partnered with some of the world’s leading conscious brands. We see the scope of impact these brands are creating with the money invested in their companies. If the whole world decided today to only invest in companies like our tri partners we would see a massive shift overnight in the quality of life for ALL of us. This is because conscious brands like theirs have a strong ethos rooted in equality, fair-trade, and environmental stewardship.

Lets dive in and take a look at how voting with you dollars can make an impact. Most of us are well aware that the textile industry is one of the leading problems when it comes to social justice. Did you know that 1 in 6 people on the planet are employed in the textile industry? 80% of those are women that are making less than $3 a day. So one major move we can make towards social justice is investing in ethically sourced clothing. Check out our blog from last year: “Fast Fashion: The Story Behind Your Wardrobe” to learn more about this industry and how you can make a difference.

I want to give you another example of how voting with your dollars can serve social justice. It is a daunting fact that there are 844 million people around the world that don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. Something most Americans take for granted every single day. While being water-wise is a step in the right direction, how can we be proactive making a change. Water like air is an inalienable right, and companies like Numi Organic Tea share this belief. So every time you buy Numi tea, a portion of their profit goes to funding their H2OPE program. They take your investment and build wells for communities in need. You can read more about heir program here.

As you can see, there are so many ways you can make a difference simply by consciously choosing to vote with your dollars. Take a stroll through our partner pages to learn more about the brands we are working with and how supporting them empowers the social justice movement. There is no inequality in man, except that which we have allowed being placed upon us by a divisive few. All persons deserve equal benefits and opportunities as are afforded to us by society. We believe that we have the same inalienable rights as human beings, absent of discrimination by sex, gender, race, creed, color, age, faith, or economic status. We are all sisters and brothers equal in the eyes of our Mother Earth. We are all ONE.
